Daily Market Commentary (Securities)

The FBM KLCI index gained 0.93 points or 0.05% on Thursday. The Finance Index fell 0.29% to 15248.25 points, the Properties Index dropped 0.10% to 1209.19 points and the Plantation Index down 0.09% to 7332.35 points. The market traded within a range of 10.60 points between an intra-day high of 1706.26 and a low of 1695.66 during the session.

Actively traded stocks include PESONA, PESONA-WC, LEESK, UNISEM-WA, XDL, IFCAMSC, JAKS, FRONTKN, KBUNAI and CHINA50-C1. Trading volume increased to 1617.99 mil shares worth RM1582.21 mil as compared to Wednesday’s 1364.89 mil shares worth RM1735.74 mil.

Leading Movers were WPRTS (+18 sen to RM4.18), SKPETRO (+7 sen to RM2.40), ASTRO (+7 sen to RM3.02), SIME (+18 sen to RM8.60) and HLFG (+14 sen to RM15.32). Lagging Movers were CIMB (-9 sen to RM5.20), GENM (-5 sen to RM4.15), IOICORP (-5 sen to RM4.18), TM (-6 sen to RM6.49) and MAYBANK (-7 sen to RM8.99). Market breadth was negative with 383 gainers as compared to 401 losers.

The KLCI closed flat for the second day with 0.93 points higher to 1699.92 points amid overnight gains in US market after the Federal Reserve maintained interest rate and rebound in oil price. The performance of our benchmark index was lifted by buying in heavy weight counters such as Westports Holdings, Sapurakencana Petroleum and Astro.
